Caitlyn Jenner p***ed everyone off with joke about mass shooting
Caitlyn Jenner is on the receiving end of an angry backlash after cracking a joke about the Virginia baseball shooting.
Six people were wounded last Wednesday in Virginia, when 66-year-old James T Hodgkinson opened fire on several Republican members of Congress practising for a charity baseball game.
Hodgkinson was shot dead after security agents returned fire. Congressman Steve Scalise, who was wounded in the attack, remains in “serious” condition, but no lives were lost.
Caitlyn Jenner cracked a joke about the shooting in a Q&A session at a Republican conference this week, repeating speculation about the shooter’s left-wing beliefs.
She joked: “Fortunately, the guy was a really bad shot. Liberals can’t even shoot straight.”
A video of the comments was posted to Facebook by a college Republican group, but the post has since been deleted.
The quip was roundly condemned.
Will & Grace star Debra Messing wrote “OMG. This is Disgusting. Absolutely shameful.”
Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America said: “This comment is not ok, Caitlyn Jenner. Key trait American shooters share isnt political party, but history of domestic violence.”
Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes said: “I think the LGBTQ community assumed Caitlyn would expand compassion once she saw what it’s like on the other side of equality – but no.”
At the same event Jenner praised Donald Trump for withdrawing the US from a climate change agreement.
She claimed: “I just think the Paris accord was just a way for the rest of the world to kind of ruin us economically.
“To me, it was all about transfer of wealth — get it out of the United States and give it to other countries.”
Jenner has been burning bridges on all sides recently.
She recently confirmed she might get booted off reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians after a feud with her family.
The Kardashian clan have fallen out with Jenner over her tell-all book that discusses her transition to female.
In her frequent media appearances to promote the book, Jenner has been harshly critical about her ex-wife Kris Jenner’s struggles to accept her transition.
Kris Jenner trashed the book as “made up”, while Kim Kardashian said it was “unfair” and “untruthful”.
Following the spat, Caitlyn Jenner revealed that she doesn’t expect to appear on Keeping Up with the Kardashians in the future.
She told the Sunday Times: “As of right now, I don’t see myself doing that show any more.”
Jenner transitioned two years ago, revealing her new look on the cover of Vanity Fair.
She became a huge hit and was celebrated for the bravery of going through the experience so publicly.
However her TV series, I Am Cait, flopped in its second season, following a string of positive comments about the Republicans and Donald Trump that alienated some of her core fans.
Jenner had originally offered herself as a trans ambassador for the Trump administration.
Her adoration for Trump did not last, however.
When the president repealed an Obama era protection for trans people using the bathroom, Jenner hit out at Trump, writing: “From one Republican to another, this is a disaster.
“You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me.”
