San Francisco Pride 2017: Everything you need to know and where to stay

San Francisco Pride is an event that should be on everybody’s calendar. The world renowned celebration will be the 47th annual parade held in the Californian city.
This year the theme is “a celebration of diversity” and will feature a whole range of inspirational speakers and performers. Here’s your complete guide to making the most of the weekend, from what to do to where to stay.
When is San Francisco Pride 2017?
San Francisco Pride 2017 takes place from June 24 to June 25 with the main Pride Parade taking place on June 25.
What events have been organised for San Francisco Pride 2017?
The standout is, of course, the San Francisco Pride Parade 2017, which runs along Market Street, starting at Beale and going all the way to 8th, with the parade scheduled to take place from 10.30 am to 6 pm.
Special guests at the San Francisco Pride Parade 2017 included the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, Betty Who and Madame Gandhi, and this year’s sponsors include Alaska Airlines, Smirnoff and Captain Morgan.
As well as the march, there are a series of special events, and we’ve rounded up the biggest and best below.
Main Stage on June 24 from midday to 6 pm.
On Saturday a whole host of MCs, speakers and performers will appear on the main stage including MVMNT, Edwin Bernbaum and Sister Roma.
Main Stage on June 25 from 11 am to 6 pm.
Once again Sunday’s celebrations will have MCs, speakers and performers including Jeff Valentine, The Dru Project and Cheer San Francisco. Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits (BAAITS) will also be on the Main Stage doing blessings.
“Under the Rotunda”: The Official SF Pride VIP Party at City Hall on June 25 from 2 pm to 5 pm.
This VIP party will have a delicious catering service and bar across three rooms of non-stop entertainment provided by punk band Pansy Division’s Jon Ginoli, former M.I.A band member Madame Gandhi and acrobat artist Acrolele.

What is the history of San Francisco Pride?
The first San Francisco Pride was held in 1970 a year after the Stonewall Riots in New York. Beginning with just a couple of hundred participants the celebration has now grown to host nearly two million people.
The most recent Pride events in 2015 and 2016 have also engraved themselves into San Francisco’s history.
The 2015 event was held just days after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of same-sex marriage. The 2016 event took place following the Orlando shooting which shook the LGBT community.
