Scottish Tory leader receives mixed response for ‘provocative’ Gillian Anderson pic

Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson has faced a mixed response on Twitter after posting a “provocative” picture of Gillian Anderson.
Ms Davidson posted the picture to announce that she was on holiday for two weeks.
Alongside the photo of the actor in stockings sat next to a bed, Ms Davidson wrote: “Right, I’m off for a fortnight. In the mean time, here’s @GillianA just sitting round the house in stilettos & seamed stockings. As you do.”
The picture garnered a mixed response with some saying they appreciated the picture, with others suggesting that it was “objectifying women”.
Channel 4 News Political Editor Michael Crick wrote: “Blimey. This from the woman many Tories would like to see replace Theresa May.”
Another follower added: “That wouldn’t be the leader of the Tory branch office in Scotland objectifying women would it? Just asking.”
While another user added: “Ruth. You rock.”
And a third said: “This made my evening also”.
Ms Davidson this week publically challenged the Democratic Unionist Party over its opposition to same-sex marriage.
She became the most senior Tory figure to openly challenge the DUP on its opposition to same-sex marriage.
The Conservative Party failed to get an overall majority in this month’s General Election,and has since made a deal with the DUP to govern.
Ms Davidson’s plans to marry her partner were delayed this year after she was hit with a £10,000 vet bill when her dog was hit by a car.
She announced her engagement to Jen Wilson on Twitter last May, having popped the question while on holiday in Paris.
She was congratulated by the then Prime Minister David Cameron, whose government introduced gay marriage legislation.
Davidson attracted headlines during last year’s Conservative leadership contest when she refused to criticise Andrea Leadsom – Theresa May’s main opponent – who had called gay marriage “harmful”.
She even invited Leadsom, who went on to lose to Theresa May, to her wedding.
Davidson also revealed last year that she dreams of following in the steps of former Labour MP Ed Balls – and compete on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
“I want a bit of that action,” she said of Ed Balls’ appearance on the show.
