Police search for driver in hit and run on trans woman

Police in Washington DC are seeking out the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run on a transgender woman.

26-year-old Davon Washington said she was run over intentionally by the vehicle.

According to friend Amia Bagley, a group were walking along K Street NE just after 2am when a dark hatchback vehicle approached them.

After Washington refused to give the two men in the vehicle her number, her friends walked on and she was run over.

“When she was hit, it happened so fast that none of us had time to think but call 911,” Bagley told NBC.

“It was just don’t move her body because she went all the way in the air… We were panicking because she wasn’t moving. She wasn’t conscious at the time.”

A friend said: “You have homophobic people out here… You have people who don’t like transgender people.”

Police have not said they are treating the incident as a hate crime.

But the LGBT unit of the police force are looking into the incident.

They have also not provided updates on her condition.


A 17-year-old trans woman Was last month shot dead in Georgia – becoming the 14th trans person killed in the US since the turn of the year.

Ava Le’Ray Barrin was killed following an alleged altercation in the car park of Riverview Apartments, a building on the edge of Athens.

Athens-Clarke police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that 21-year-old Jalen Breon Brown took out a gun and shot Barrin.

Josie Berrios before her was the 13th trans person killed in the US in 2017.
