Adam Lambert to perform emotional tribute to George Michael at Project Angel Food Gala
George Michael is to be named as a recipient of the Elizabeth Taylor Humanitarian Award.
Michael was a regular, private donor to the charity throughout his life.
Adam Lambert is also set to perform a moving tribute to the singer at the event.
The former American Idol and Queen singer has said the late Wham! frontman was one of his musical role models.
Lambert is set to perform a number of the Freedom singer’s biggest hits at Project Angel Food’s 27th Annual Angel Awards in Los Angeles.
Michael left a donation of $25,000 on the charity’s doorstep in 1993, while the chaity was struggling to make ends meet after an influx of AIDS patients turned to Project Angel Food for help.
The Wham! star had been working on new material up until his sudden death on Christmas Day 2016.
His final song is now expected to be released, however.
Top music producer Naughty Boy says the final song is set to be released as a single.
The 32-year-old producer, real name Shahid Khan, said the pair had been working together on the new material through 2016.
Naughty Boy had been a fan of Michael, contacting the Faith singer’s management to ask if he would sing on an album he was producing.
Michael then enlisted the producer to work on his own material, which had been due to come out during his return to public life in 2017.
Naughty Boy told The Mirror: “It’s a brand new track, it is amazing.
“It’s a song that he asked me to work with him on and there’s a real chance this single will come out.”
The news will delight fans who have continued to be loyal to the gay performer after his death.
Since his death, dozens of people have opened up about the singer’s extraordinary generosity and anonymous philanthropy.
