Doctor Who’s 13th Doctor is female and the broflakes are NOT happy with Jodie Whittaker
Doctor Who made history yesterday, when it cast Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor.
If you don’t include Joanna Lumley in the Red Nose Day spoof The Curse of the Fatal Death (we don’t), Wittaker is the first woman to play the classic sci-fi character.
Whittaker said on getting the role: “It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope.
“It feels completely overwhelming; as a feminist, as a woman, as an actor, as a human, as someone who wants to continually push themselves and challenge themselves, and not be boxed in by what you’re told you can and can’t be. It feels incredible.
“I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender. Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.”
Whittaker’s casting reunites her with Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall, who is taking over from Steven Moffat as the new Doctor Who showrunner.
Many people are naturally delighted, Whittaker is a fantastic actor and her key role in 2011 sci-fi horror Attack The Block show off her genre credentials.
But the broflakes? Not so much.
Below is just some of the outraged response from actual fully grown men and women appalled that a two-hearted shape-shifting, time-travelling alien who lives in a phonebox that’s bigger on the inside could be played by a woman.

Of course, not everyone is against the casting – with past Doctor Colin Baker leading the congratulations.
And Whittaker’s former Attack The Block castmate and current Star Wars superstar John Boyega has of course joined in.

It’s not been confirmed that Pearl Mackie will be leaving, but given the openly gay Bill’s happy exit/ending at the end of the last series and Moffat’s exit, we can assume that a new companion will be joining the show.
Doctor Who returns this Christmas for Peter Capaldi’s farewell as The Doctor, with David Bradley seemingly playing The First Doctor.
Bradley previously played William Hartnell, the original First Doctor actor, in 2013 BBC docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time.
