First major Church in the UK to allow same-sex marriages sees almost no priests sign up
The Scottish Episcopal Church has become the first major Church in the UK to allow same-sex weddings.
However itās now emerged the ruling has been ignored by the overhwelming majority of its priests.
In a binding vote at its General Synod, all three houses of the meeting ā the bishops, clergy and laity ā came out in favour of the equality move.
At least two-thirds of all groups voting for same-sex weddings.
Now new stats have revealed that barely 2% of its priests are personally willing to carry out such services.
Herald Scotland reports that nine priests have registered with the Registrar General to be able to carry out the same-sex ceremonies.
None of the Churchās remaining 350 priests have agreed to personally carrying out the move.

This comes despite an emphatic decision to approve the measure.
In all, 74 percent of the General Synod voted for the motion, which removes the definition that marriage is between a man and a woman from the Churchās canon.
It will also add a section which acknowledges there are different understandings of marriage, thus allowing clergy to conduct weddings between same-sex couples.
The Anglican Church does not have to perform same-sex weddings in the UK.
The head of the Scottish Episcopal Church since 2009, the Most Rev David Chillingworth, said this vote was āthe end of a long journey.
āThe step we have taken today is a momentous one,ā he continued.
āBy removing gender from our marriage canon, our church now affirms, as its official position, that as a same-sex couple are not just married, but are married in the sight of God. They can āleave and cleaveā.
āThey can express in marriage a commitment to lifelong faithfulness to one another and to the belief that a calling to marriage is for them too a calling to love, forgiveness, sacrifice, truth.
āA new chapter opens up ā inclusion has taken a particular form.ā

He added that this vote recognised āmarriage of same-sex couples as an expression of Christ-like acceptance and welcomeā.
Speaking about the vote, a spokesperson for the Church of England said it was āa matter for the Scottish Episcopal Church.
āThe Church of England is unable by law to marry couples of the same sex and the teaching of the Church of England remains unchanged.
āHowever this is a matter on which there is real and profound disagreement in the Church of England.
āWe are seeking to find ways forward rooted in scripture and the Christian faith as we have received it and which values everyone, without exception, not as a āproblemā or an āissueā, but as a person loved and made in the image of God.ā
Stonewall Scotland tweeted its reaction, saying: āWeāre delighted that the Scottish Episcopal Church has voted to allow same-sex couples to marry.
āThis will mean a lot to so many couples!ā
