Trump voter Caitlyn Jenner has lashed out at the President over a ban on trans people in the military.

The President of the United States announced today that he would re-impose a ban on transgender soldiers serving openly in the military.

Reversing a decision under Barack Obama, Trump claimed in a string of tweets that the military “cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail”.

There are thought to be more than 15,000 transgender Americans currently serving in the armed forces, who could now face discharge.

Transgender reality star Caitlyn Jenner, who has repeatedly defended her support for the Republican leadership, hit out at Trump in a tweet today.

She wrote: “There are 15,000 patriotic transgender Americans in the US military fighting for all of us. What happened to your promise to fight for them?”

LGBT Republican pressure group the Log Cabin Republicans also lashed out at the decision.

Log Cabin Republicans President Gregory T. Angelo said: “This smacks of politics, pure and simple. The United States military already includes transgender individuals who protect our freedom day in and day out.

“Excommunicating transgender soldiers only weakens our readiness; it doesn’t strengthen it.

“The president’s statement this morning does a disservice to transgender military personnel and reintroduces the same hurtful stereotypes conjured when openly gay men and women were barred from service during the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell era.

“As an organization that led the charge against that hateful policy, Log Cabin Republicans remains equally committed to standing up for transgender military personnel who put their lives on the line to keep us free.”

Jenner had originally offered herself as a trans ambassador for the Trump administration.

Her adoration for Trump did not last, however.

When the president repealed an Obama era protection for trans people using the bathroom, Jenner hit out at Trump, writing: “From one Republican to another, this is a disaster.

“You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me.”

He didn’t.

However, Jenner has insisted she ‘doesn’t regret’ voting for Trump.

She said: “As far as LGBT issues, yes, he’s made some mistakes. I don’t support him in everything that he does. But we needed to shake the system up.

“To, you know, to have career politicians constantly, the Clintons, the Bushes, run this country. We need to get outside that box and shake things up again.”
