Tom Daley opens up about 20 year age gap between him and husband Dustin Lance Black

Tom Daley has opened up about the 20-year age gap with his husband Dustin Lance Black.

Daley and Lance Black tied the knot in a stunning wedding ceremony earlier this year.

The happy couple have come under criticism from some for their considerable difference in ages, including from other gay men.

However Daley has now revealed that he feels like the older one in their relationship.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, he said: “I don’t really think about age and we never notice the age gap.

“Funnily enough, I feel older in terms of maturity.

“I had to grow up quickly because I was only 10 when I first travelled to Australia without my parents to compete.

“In a way, I did miss out on some aspects of childhood because I had to learn to do things for myself and stand on my own two feet quite quickly, but, on the other hand, I was so lucky to be able to travel and have so many experiences.”

The World Champion diver added: “Over the last few years I’ve matured both as an athlete and as a person and I’m in a good place in my mind and body.

“Actually, when I’m with the diving squad nowadays, I feel old because basically, I’m the ‘granddad’ in the team – everyone’s younger than me.”

Daley has been in his trans-Atlantic relationship since 2013, when the couple first met and announced their engagement in 2015 by revealing it in The Times newspaper.

Lance Black, an Oscar winning film producer, is 20 years older than the celebrity diver, but it has never been an issue for the pair.

“Being with Lance has been the best thing that’s happened in my life,” he told the magazine.

“It’s very exciting moving forward and it’s nice to be in love.”
