Rapper in Grandmaster Flash crew accused of murder thought homeless man hit on him
A founding rapper of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five who has been accused of murdering a homeless man said that he believed the man was gay and hitting on him.
Kidd Creole, real name Nathaniel Glover, allegedly murdered the man in New York because he thought he was being hit on and after ignoring the victim, he approached Glover in a “threatening” manner.
Mark Dahl, the prosecuting attorney, told the court that Glover had told Dahl after he was arrested that he had thought the victims was hitting on him.
Dahl explained that Glover was walking to his security job when John Jolly, the victim, said “What’s up?”.
According to Dahl, an assistant District Attorney, this “infuriated the defendant”.
The prosecutor said that Glover continued to walk but apparently thought that the homeless man was going to rob him because he approached Glover with a “threatening voice and manner”.
Glover then allegedly reached into his sleeve and pulled out a steak knife and stabbed Jolly twice in the chest.
The victim is said to have then collapsed and was taken to hospital where he was declared dead.
Glover then allegedly went to work and washed himself and the knife in the bathroom.
He then left to go home after 15 minutes.
The defendant allegedly told prosecutors that he discarded the knife in a sewer in the Bronx.
The victim is believed to not have been gay.
He had 16 prior arrests for sexually assaulting and attacking women, amongst other offences.
The homophobic nature of the crime is not being addressed as Glover has only been charged with second-degree murder.
Defence lawyer Patrick Watts claimed that the evidence Dahl had presented was “circumstantial”.
The evidence was a conversation that Glover had with Dahl following his arrest.
