Family of murdered trans woman make heartbreaking appeal for information
The family of a transgender woman who was the 9th trans person murdered this year have made an emotional appeal for information on their daughters death.
Chayviss ‘Chay’ Darice Reed was shot to death in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in April.
The 28-year-old was shot multiple times in the stomach while crossing a road late in the early hours of the morning.
She was misgendered in early reports and in a fresh appeal for information her family have used the wrong pronouns.
Reed’s mother said: “I know that you would be here right where I am, asking for the same thing. Please help.”
“It’s heartbreaking. She’s a human being, a person, my child.”
She added that she loved her daughter despite her gender identity and that she did not deserve to die in the way she did.
“Please, could you all find this killer.
“She didn’t have to die like this.”
“He grew up and he made his own choice. I can’t stop him for that.
“All I can do is love him,” she added.
Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
“If you know anything, call,” said Reed’s mother.
Earlier this month the 16th recorded transgender woman was shot to death in Atlanta.
On August 1 TeeTee Dangerfield was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside of an apartment complex.
The murder of Dangerfield comes just days after “comedian” Lil’ Duval went on the radio show the Breakfast Club and “joked” about killing trans women.
Duval, real name Roland Powell, said that if he found out somebody was trans after having sex with them, he would kill them.
