Pastor: I’m OK with gay marriage as long as they get shot in the head
A pastor is under fire for a horrific remark about same-sex marriage.
Logan Robertson is a pastor at Westcity Bible Baptist Church in Auckland, New Zealand.
In a clip from a sermon uploaded to the church’s YouTube channel, he makes a shocking jibe about gay couples.
He says: “Someone emailed me, asking, what’s your view on homo marriage?
“My view on homo marriage is that the Bible never mentions it!
“So I’m not against them getting married… As long as a bullet goes through their head the moment they kiss.
“That’s what [the Bible] talks about – not homo marriage but homo death. There’s no such thing as homo marriage.
“That’s what should happen, but we’ve got Christians who would rather side with their cute little fag cousin or brother than with Christians who actually preach against it.”
Dozens of Robertson’s followers left homophobic messages below the clip.
One wrote: “Amen. Homos came even consummate their abominable ‘marriage’ anyway. So it’s never legit. They just got a dumb piece of paper for a tax status.”
When another wrote “Faggots should never be allowed to get married period!”, the church’s official account replied: “They should not be alive period!”
Same-sex marriage has been legal in New Zealand since 2013, despite a rather more troubled path for equality in neighbouring Australia.
New Zealand’s Baptist Union insists it has no association or affiliation with the church, which is independent.
Speaking to the New Zealand Herald, Robertson made no attempt to apologise for his comments.
Asked if his comments were hate speech, he said: “Of course it is. Does it sound like hate speech to you?
“If the world thinks that’s hate speech then that’s fine.”
However, he insisted he was not actually calling for anyone to shoot gay people in the head.
He said: “It’s got nothing to do with me – they could read that verse in the Bible.
“I’m not inciting vigilantes. I believe it’s the Government’s job.”
The church claims to have around 40 members.
Elsewhere in New Zealand, a city councillor has come under fire for homophobic comments about a pink piece of paper.
