Two amazing gay kisses are going to grace the cover of Vogue
The Italian edition of Vogue magazine has released two LGBT-themed covers for its September issue.
In a radical step for the publication, both will feature same-sex couples kissing.
The first cover portrays real life couple Edoardo Velicksov and Pablo Rousson in an intimate moment.
And the second heartwarming cover features models Lily Alridge and Vittoria Ceretti.
A third cover features a male and a female, Carla Boscono and Federico Spinas, kissing.
Federico Spinas, the male model, posted about the shoot on Instagram, “That’s the reason why I started modelling and the result of a long way to a new beginning.”
Despite its status as a Catholic country, Italy has taken steps towards LGBT progress in recent months.
In March, an Italian court recognised gay adoptive parents, in a landmark ruling.
This year also saw Italy’s first ever wedding involving a trans woman who has had her true gender recognised without reassignment surgery.
And this isn’t the first time the Vogue franchise has attempted to push for an LGBT-inclusive cover.
The US edition was in the headlines for a recent gaffe regarding an article featuring an interview with Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik.
The two were photographed wearing unisex clothing for the piece. Vogue journalist, Maya Singer, commented: “Gender is a more or less arbitrary distraction” and that there is “a terrific opportunity for play”.
Singer explained:”This new blase attitude toward gender codes marks a radical break”
She added: “For these millennials, at least, descriptives like boy or girl rank pretty low on the list of important qualities – and the way they dress reflects that.”
Gigi Hadid agreed, stating: “Totally. It’s not about gender. It’s about, like, shapes. And what feels good on you that day. And anyway, it’s fun to experiment.”
Vogue has since apologised for calling the stars “genderfluid”.
“We missed the mark. We do look forward to continuing the conversation with greater sensitivity.”
Vogue Paris has a better track record with gender and sex-themed covers.
Its March cover featured transgender model, Valentina Sampaio.
Vogue Paris’s Editor-in-chief, Emmanuelle Alt, wrote in his editorial of the March issue: “Only when a transgender person poses on the front cover of a fashion magazine and it is no longer necessary to write an editorial on the subject will we know that the battle is won.”
