Australian Christian Lobby claims equal marriage will lead to ‘radical gay sex education’ in schools
The Australian Christian Lobby has claimed that if the country allows same-sex weddings, schools will enforce āradical gay sex educationā.
Next month Australians will be asked to vote on whether same-sex couples deserve the right to marriage, in a controversial public vote pushed forward by right-wing Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
Ahead of the vote the country has faced a tidal wave of misleading arguments from the āNoā campaign, with a much-mocked TV advert warning about the āconsequencesā of the vote.
The anti-gay Australian Christian Lobby, a key member of the āCoalition for Marriageā, is now attempting to conflate the vote, on whether to grant basic marital rights to same-sex couples, with teaching little children about gay sex.
The group claimed in a mailout: āChanging the marriage law to allow same-sex couples to marry will mean taking gender out of our laws.
āRadical gay sex education programs will become more widespread and compulsory as it has overseas.
āIf you are concerned about your rights as a parent, or radical gay sex education in classrooms. ITS [sic] OK TO VOTE NO.ā
It is also promoting the book āStealing From a Child ā The Injustice of āMarriage Equalityā.
The TV ad war is expected to intensify ahead of the debate.
PinkNews can reveal that the Coalition for Marriage is aggressively soliciting donations from conservatives in the country, seeking to raise $35,000 a day āto keep [their] ad on the airā.
In a mailout to supporters, the group wrote: āLast night we launched our first TV ad of the campaign.
āThis commercial will play an important role in helping Australians understand the consequences of changing our marriage laws.
āWe need to make sure as many Australians as possible have a chance to see this ad.
āSo please watch it, share it with your friends and family ā and please give to ensure we have the $35,000 needed each night to keep this ad on the air.ā
Explainer: What the hell is going on with same-sex marriage in Australia?
The Coalition for Marriage made several spurious claims about the potential consequences of a āYesā postal vote result, including a 4000% increase in children coming out as transgender, which they say would be disastrous.
Phelps sad: āThe only young people affected by marriage equality are young gay people who, for the first time, will have the same dignity as everyone else in our country and they deserve that.ā
Executive Director of the Equality Campaign Tiernan Brady said: āThe next few weeks must be a campaign of respectful conversations, not angry debates, because this is about real peopleās lives and their dignity.
āLesbian and gay people are our family members, friends, neighbours and workmates and we would ask all who take part in our national conversation to remember that.ā
