Jacob Rees-Mogg’s hashtag has been flooded with gay kissing, and it’s hilarious
Jacob Rees-Mogg’s hashtag has been swamped by pictures of same-sex couples kissing.
The MP, among the frontrunners to become the Conservative Party’s next leader, said yesterday that he was against marriage equality and abortion under any circumstance.
Speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain, he shared these views and refused to rule out the notion that he could become the next Prime Minister.
The backlash has been swift, especially on Twitter.
And the best backlash yet began when writer and actor Alex Andreou invited his followers to post homoerotic GIFS all over #moggmentum, the hashtag started by fans of Rees-Mogg who want him to be Prime Minister.
Andreou, who https://thepinknews.com/2017/08/23/man-turned-down-for-adopting-a-cat-because-he-is-gay-gets-happy-ending/hit the news last month after he was stopped from adopting a cat because he’s gay, used a wonderful amount of sarcasm in the post.
“Wouldn’t it be a DREADFUL thing,” he wrote, “if homophobic leadership wannabe Jacob Rees-Mogg’s hashtag #moggmentum was totally swamped by homoerotica?”
Below this message, he posted a GIF of a gay kiss.
He continued: “Just imagine how dismayed his poor little sexist, fascist army of alt-right thugs would be if every time they click on #moggmentum they see”.
A lesbian kiss followed.
“I mean, it’s fine to be LGBT, but why would you shove it down poor little homophobic #moggmentum fans’ throats. So mean. It’s just not on.”
Accompanying this text was a GIF of many same-sex kisses.
“Please understand I’m not IN ANY WAY encouraging you to tweet images of LGBTQ love, but if you choose to, don’t forget #moggmentum hashtag.”
Because people are amazing, they duly obliged.
I wouldn’t want to upset those who think they have say over a woman’s body #moggmentum pic.twitter.com/ygFBw3ImaM

Guys! Haven’t you got anything better to do than post LGBQT lovers on #MoggMentum‘s pages? I can’t believe you’d all be that childish pic.twitter.com/GSiYu0NkKp

For the record, I agree w/ @sturdyAlex that it would be *terrible* if the #MoggMentum hashtag was appropriated for all sorts of queer love pic.twitter.com/A5m0PaRTUG

22 minutes later, Andreou wrote: “Oh, Twitter, you really are magnificent.
“Click on #moggmentum. See what you’ve done. HAAAAHAHAHA”.
And later, he told Twitter: “Good lord, what have I done? #MoggMentum has basically become a huge archive of beautiful LGBT snogging gifs. Literally thousands.”
And it truly is a beautiful sight.
I’m very disappointed you’re choosing to wind up homophobic bigots like this. Not on, Alex! #MoggMentum pic.twitter.com/xdvnQ8L46I
