Sir Elton John marks 25th years of his AIDS Foundation with New York gala
Sir Elton John is to celebrate 25 years of the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF).
The singer, pianist and entertainer has found global fame for his performing, with millions going to see his live shows around the world.
But for the past quarter of a century he has also dedicated a huge amount of time to tackling the stigma against HIV AIDS and helping those with the infection.
The US not-for-profit was created in 1992, and established a year later in the UK.
It has been recognised as the “largest HIV funder of programmes for transgender people.”
The organisation is now set to mark its 25 year anniversary in a huge New York show.
Neil Patrick Harris is set to host, along with special guest Aretha Franklin.
Celeb guests and speakers include President Bill Clinton, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Sharon Stone, among a long list of other high-profile stars.
“At this time of great uncertainty in the world, EJAF’s work is more important than ever,” EJAF Executive Director Scott Campbell said.
“After 25 years, EJAF remains steadfastly committed to addressing the unmet needs of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and fighting stigma as a major driver of the global AIDS epidemic.
“We believe everyone living with HIV/AIDS should have immediate access to high quality medical care and all people at risk of HIV should be empowered with the best knowledge and tools available to prevent transmission no matter who they are, who they love, where they come from, or what they do.”

Sir Elton campaigned with Princess Diana to tackle stigma during the organisation’s early days.
The Rocket Man singer was close friends with the Princess prior to her tragic death 20 years ago, in 1997.
The pair both fought during the AIDS crisis to challenge the public perception of HIV/AIDS, with their high-profile action helping to change the way the public saw the crisis.
The charity wrote: “On the 20th anniversary of her death, Elton John AIDS Foundation acknowledges the outstanding contribution that Princess Diana made to the fight against AIDS, helping keep men like Gerard McGrath alive.
“This year, Prince Harry, who carries on Diana’s work in the fight against AIDS, met Gerard with @eltonjohn when they visited London Lighthouse, the place where Diana had met Gerard 28 years ago.”
