This lesbian couple’s viral photo was stolen by straight Twitter, and their response was amazing
17-year-old Alexa Willis and her 19-year-old girlfriend Noemi have had their love co-opted by straight people.
The couple, who live in Austin, Texas, have been together for over a year.
Alexa said: “Ever since I first met her, I fell in love. And I know this girl is the one for me,” according to BuzzFeed News.

In April, they ordered personalised debit cards on which was printed a photo of the two kissing.

Alexa said the reason behind this was “so we always think about each other’s needs when it comes to spending our money.”
The tweet featuring the cards ended up going viral, gaining a multitude of positive responses from the Twitterverse.
Then, on Saturday, the photos were reposted by popular Twitter account @Relationships – without giving credit to who the photos belonged to.
As well as taking their photos without permission, the relationships account also changed one minuscule detail…
They changed the caption from ‘gf’ to ‘bf’, implying that the photos were of a straight male and female couple.

As you can probably imagine, this caused Twitter to implode a little bit.
People were a mixture of amused, surprised, and angry, at the apparent erasure of a queer relationship by a popular account.
Alexa told Buzzfeed that she discovered the tweet after she was tagged in it by someone on Twitter.
It made her upset to see Twitter accounts being “so heteronormative”, and she wondered why they “couldn’t take into consideration it was two girls”.
“I also would’ve liked the credit that it was my girlfriend and I’s idea,” she added.
Alexa then hit back at the account with this fantastic response:
um this is my gf and i and we are LESBIANS https://t.co/oOOmoygGEo

People’s reactions to Alexa’s reply were just as passionate as the replies to the original tweet, with many Twitter users showing support for the couple.
Alexa also shared a message for the owner of the account, saying: “”[It’s] very sad to know people don’t consider that there ARE gay couples, and it was obvious it was two girls.”
She added: “I would ask the owner of the account why they thought changing it to boyfriend was so important.
“And what did they think they would get out of it?”
The relationships account has not yet acknowledged Alexa’s correction.
