Ricky Martin has opened up about his troubled marriage plans.

The Livin’ La Vida Loca singer is set to marry his partner Jwan Yosef, but has come up against a very unexpected barrier.

He has two twin sons born to a surrogate mother, who he raises with Jwan, after coming out in an emotional letter to fans in 2010, despite many years of denials and speculation.

Where the couple will tie the know has become a very political issue following an order by US president Donald Trump.

“Planning a wedding is super overwhelming,” he told Ocean Drive magazine.

“We want to do it right, hopefully next spring. We’ll do the three-day event as I call it.

“We still don’t know where we will do it, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico or in Sweden, where my fiancé is from, or in Spain, where I am also from.”

While husband-to-be Jwan grew up in Sweden, he was born in Syria, where many of his family still live.

The happy couple could be prevented from marrying in the place they call home, America, due to President Trump’s draconian order banning people from the country entering the US.

“We also have to deal with the fact that most of my fiancé’s family is from Syria,” he said.

“So maybe they won’t be able to come into this country.

“So we might consider doing it in Stockholm or in Spain. We don’t know yet, but it’s going to be a great event.”

Their family life, aside from Trump’s meddling, is an ideal image of the modern family.

“People will be talking about it,” Rick opened up.

“We’re a modern family, and I think people need to see, and I want to normalise the beauty of our family.

“That’s why I’m making it public and I am going to share my wedding with the world.”

Since talking about his husband’s Syria problems, Ricky has been plagued by his own family challenges.

He spoke to Ellen DeGeneres about Puerto Rico, which has been devastated by Hurricane Maria, and is home to most of his family.

The She Bangs singer begged viewers for help to save lives on the island, as reports emerge of large numbers of deaths from the disaster.

He pleaded with audience members to donate, saying: “Ladies and gentlemen, I am from Puerto Rico and right now Puerto Rico is suffering.

“We were destroyed by a hurricane and it’s been very difficult right now.

“There is no water, there is no electricity, there is no food. There is no medicine.

“There is no diesel for the generators that will make the hospital work.

“People are dying. So, as a Puerto Rican, as the American that I am, I’m here to ask for your help.”

Despite the challenges, the singer has said he is much happier thesedays after he came out as gay.

Reflecting on why he spent most of his career in the closet, he told CBS Sunday Morning:”I struggled so much… it was extremely painful.”

Asked why he didn’t come out sooner, the former altar boy added: “I was afraid… I was afraid of rejection, unfortunately.

“For many years, a lot of people told me that my feelings were evil. What you’re feeling is not godly, that I’m not a good person if I’m feeling this.

“No more of that, I’m a good person, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with me. I’ve been the happiest man ever since.”

Asked if Martin’s younger self would be proud of him now, he said: “Now he is proud. He wasn’t that proud a few years ago, but now he is proud.”
