A Republican mayor did drag to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity, but people arenā€™t pleased.

The Georgia Mayor, Derek Easterling, who oversees Kennesaw, dressed as Christina Aguilera and performed ā€˜Lady Marmaladeā€™.

He took part in the Battle for the Brain fundraiser which raised $250,000 for good causes.

But on Facebook, residents expressed their distaste.

One called the performance ā€œgrossā€ and another said it was ā€œsickā€.

A third added: ā€œAs a mayor, I think thereā€™s other things that he could do to get a message out there.ā€

But the Mayor has defended his decision to do drag, saying he is glad he dressed as Xtina.

He told WSBTV: ā€œI try to put the fun in fundraiserā€¦ I have 250,000 reasons why I did it.ā€

Speaking to 11 Alive, he added: ā€œThat was my performance: over the top.

ā€œ[I wanted to] get peopleā€™s attention and say, ā€™Hey look, if I can do this, you can too.ā€™ā€

Going on, he said the audience had an amazing time saying: ā€œThey were so loud, they were louder than the music. I couldnā€™t hear the music.ā€

But others did congratulate the Mayor for his efforts.

One Twitter user wrote: ā€œI love it! What a great and caring Mayor! Kennesaw is lucky to have him!ā€

ā€œEverything is already so toughā€”why make it even harder?ā€ he said. ā€œThereā€™s already enough negativity in the world. Letā€™s move forward, letā€™s have a little bit of fun and letā€™s raise awareness.ā€
