13 Reasons Why star Tommy Dorfman has opened up about suffering a sexual assault as a child.

In direct response to Anthony Rapp’s allegations that Kevin Spacey made sexual advances on him when he was 14, Dorfman has revealed his own experience of abuse.

Star Trek star Rapp claimed that in 1986, when he was 14, Spacey invited him to a party at his New York apartment and climbed on top of him, “trying to get with me sexually.”

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Rapp, now 46, said he managed to flee before the encounter progressed any further.

In response, Spacey wrote on Twitter that he didn’t remember the incident, but apologised for “what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour.”

The House of Cards star added that he was “sorry for the feelings he [Rapp] describes having carried with him all these years,” before saying: “I choose now to live as a gay man.”

Writing on Twitter, Dorfman sent a message of support to Rapp.

“As a person who was sexually assaulted and abused at 14 by a 27-year-old, I applaud [Anthony Rapp] for his courage,” he said.

“It’s scary to speak out.”

Dorfman opened up about these revelations earlier this year in an interview with GT, but did not make any allegations of sexual assault at the time.

He said: “When you’re 14, you think it’s totally fine.

“I didn’t wanna, when I bottomed for the first time, I was really young, and I didn’t quite know what that meant. I only had porn really.

“I was 14 and he was in his mid-20s, and I didn’t have the language to ask for what I might need or even say no in that kind of position.

“It was a very scary thing.

“And I think for me at 14 I thought I could do anything and I was ready for anything…and I wasn’t, I was not ready for that.”

Stars from Hollywood and beyond have condemned Spacey, not just for the alleged misconduct, but also for coming out during his apology.

In the wake of the allegations, Netflix announced that House of Cards would be ending after its sixth season.

And the International TV Academy has withdrawn an honour it was due to give Spacey.

The American Beauty actor was due to be handed the 2017 International Emmy Founders Award in three weeks at a glamorous event in New York.

Earlier this month, Dorfman voiced his opposition to a Brazilian court ruling which legalised so-called ‘gay cure therapy’.

The Netflix star said: “When I heard the news of [judge] Waldemar de Carvalho issuing a ruling to approve gay conversion therapy in Brazil, after it was banned for nearly 20 years, my heart broke.

“So many of my fans and supporters live in Brazil, and it pains me to see them not feel legitimised for who they are and who they are attracted to.”
