ASOS creates gender-neutral collection in collaboration with GLAAD
Online clothing retailer ASOS are putting their fashion foot forward as they launch the a gender-neutral clothing collection in collaboration with GLAAD.
Teaming up with one of the biggest voices in LGBT activism, the collaboration has been designed to “unite in accelerating acceptance.”
The collection, which features fourteen pieces ranging from necklaces, tote bags, t-shirt and jumpers, feature the ampersand (&).
“The collection is comprised of clothing and accessory pieces featuring the “&” symbol,” said GLAAD in a statement.
The “&” symbol represents the power of all our voices, together, resisting discrimination and hate. Proudly wearing the ampersand is one way for people to unite in accelerating acceptance,” they added.
“We wanted a logo that represented unity, inclusivity and togetherness,” said James Lawrence, our Head of Menswear Design to PinkNews. The ampersand represents the power of our voices together which really reflects the values at ASOS. We’re extremely proud to create a range of products that includes this symbol so it not only raises awareness, but people can wear with pride.

Fashion with Integrity is part of our core and we’re always looking for ways we can support social issues. Teaming up with GLAAD is the perfect partnership. Hopefully by working together, we will raise awareness and help GLAAD continue doing all the amazing work they’ve been doing for the last 30 years. ”
Lawrence added that taking a stand for LGBT issues is “non-negotiable”.
“So many brands, including ourselves have a loyal global reach who listen and pay attention to what our values are so it’s non-negotiable that we make a stand for what we believe in so our customers feel supported and make their own decisions. We can hopefully change the way people think, so with time, there will be a cultural shift and equality doesn’t even have to be accepted, it just is,” he added.
And the range is affordable too.
Prices start at £8, and the most expensive item is priced at £30.
The collection campaign stars 13 Reasons Why actor Tommy Dorfman and other LGBTQ influencers including Richie Shazam and Adam Eli.
All proceeds from the collection will be donated to GLAAD.
The fashion industry is certainly making more inclusive steps to include LGBTQ in their designs.
Transparent recently launched a collection with boutique jeweller Catbird in support of trans rights.
The collection, modelled by the show’s creator Jill Solloway, and its producers, features statement necklaces and rings featuring the trans symbol.
50% of the proceeds from the collection are going to National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE).
