Right wing pundit claims trans candidate won because ‘women can vote’
It’s been a great week for trans representation in America – but some pundits have got some rather odd theories about why.
Earlier this week people were overjoyed after Andrea Jenkins became the first trans person of colour elected to any office in the US.
The Democrat won by a landslide, clocking up more than 73 percent of the first-choice votes in Minneapolis’s Eighth Ward to give her a place on the City Council.
At the same time, Danica Roem became the first transgender person to be elected as a state official in the US – by beating a virulent transphobe.
The US elections also saw one council in Palm Springs entirely made up by LGBT representatives.
The Californian council is now made up of two gay men, a bisexual woman and a transgender woman.
All in all, it’s been a fantastic and groundbreaking set of elections – but some weren’t quite happy.

Gavin McInnes, host of CRTV show ‘Get Off My Lawn’, had a truly bizarre take on the Democrats extensive victories.
First blaming the wins on identity politics, the Canadian host, said: “The liberals say, ‘Maybe we should give up on identity politics,’ but you look at all the Sikhs and black people and trans who won in this election and all these unprecedented cases.
“It had nothing to do with policy. It was all identity politics,”
However, in an even more confusing and offensive twist, he then goes on to suggest the victories are down to giving women the vote.
“I was looking at those two trannies who won,” he continued.
“There’s no substance there at all. And I think it’s because we let women vote.
“Women have been voting now based on their ‘feels’ for many years. They brought us Obama, no substance.
“It’s all just girls, girls, girls playing politics,” he added.
Sometimes, there really just are no words.
