Homophobic Senate candidate Roy Moore blames LGBT people for sexual assault allegations
Roy Moore thinks LGBT people are responsible for the multiple sexual assault allegations made against him.
The most homophobic Senate candidate in recent history has been accused by nine women of sexual misconduct, including child molestation.
Most of the women were teenagers at the time that Moore, the Republican candidate to represent Alabama in the US Senate, allegedly sexually assaulted them.
Leigh Corfman was 14 when Moore, a 32-year-old assistant district attorney at the time, allegedly stripped the child and touched her over her bra and underpants.
He was allegedly banned from his local mall in Alabama because of his behaviour towards teenage girls there.
Despite the flood of accusations, Moore – who “doesn’t know” if gay people should be executed – has stayed in the race.
And last night at Magnolia Springs Baptist Church in Theodore, Alabama, the 70-year-old targeted LGBT people in a far-ranging attack riddled with paranoia.
Reading off yellow legal paper despite being a disgraced former judge, Moore said the claims were part of a conspiracy concocted by a mysterious “they”.
“When I say ‘they,’ who are ‘they’?” he asked the congregation.
“They’re liberals,” he continued. “They don’t hold conservative values.
“They’re the lesbian, gay, bisexual transgenders who want to change our culture.”
It is unclear whether the vile homophobe, who has said that “homosexual conduct should be illegal,” was alleging that all trans people are simultaneously lesbian, gay and bisexual.
He also blamed “socialists who want to change our way of life,” while at the same time attacking the mysterious “Washington establishment,” who he said wants to “keep everything the same so they don’t lose their position, their power, their prestige.”
Moore added: “Attacks have been not only false, but numerous and malicious.”
Enticing a child under 16 to enter a home with the purpose of proposing sexual intercourse or fondling of sexual and genital parts is – and was – a felony which means up to 10 years in prison.
Moore, who has also compared gay sex to bestiality, has resisted calls from more than a dozen Republican senators – including Majority Leader of the Senate Mitch McConnell – to step aside.
The special election between Moore and Democratic Party candidate Doug Jones, which follows Attorney General Jeff Sessions vacating the seat, is set for December 12.
