Donald Trump plays Sir Elton John’s music so loudly that his staff can’t think
Donald Trump played Sir Elton John songs so loudly that his staffers were unable to hear themselves think.
On the Trump plane, during the 2016 presidential election campaign which resulted in the anti-LGBT New Yorker taking his place in the White House, Sir Elton was on full blast.
Everyone apart from Trump couldn’t concentrate on anything apart from the gay icon’s legendary voice, according to a new book by his former aides.
This could finally explain why Trump has repeatedly chosen to call North Korea leader Rocket Man.
He has used this nickname on Twitter and, in September, during his speech at the UN general assembly.
“Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime,” he told the global leaders.
The revelation also shines a new light on Trump’s invitation to Sir Elton to play at his presidential inauguration in January.
Despite transition team member and future Press Secretary Anthony Scaramucci assuring reporters that Sir Elton would accept the invitation, the pop star flatly turned it down.
This was no surprise, considering that Sir Elton’s team asked Trump to stop playing his music at campaign events.
These songs included Tiny Dancer and – yep, you guessed it – Rocket Man.
Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and top aide David Bossie wrote the book, called Let Trump Be Trump and read by The Washington Post.
The title may be a reference to The West Wing episode Let Bartlet Be Bartlet.
The episode from 2000 featured a spirited discussion on whether gay people should be allowed to serve in the military.
Lewandowski’s old boss moved to stop transgender people from being able to serve earlier this year, though that ban has been twice blocked.
And one of those judges, US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, ruled last week that trans people must be allowed to join the military on January 1.
Sir Elton has previously attempted to set up a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The United States Intelligence Community has concluded that Putin’s government interfered in last year’s presidential election in favour of Trump.
Sir Elton was asked what he would do if he managed to sit down with the Russian leader, whose “gay propaganda” law has led to a doubling in anti-LGBT hate attacks.
“Give us a kiss!” he responded, characteristically.
