George Michael could get to number one nearly a year after his death

George Michael could be set to top the charts nearly a year to the day after he died.
George was found dead at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, age 53, on Christmas Day last year.

According to the coroner’s report he died of natural causes, not from a drug overdose as some claimed.
But his hit song Last Christmas is rising up the charts as the anniversary of his death approaches.

From its position of 29 last week, it has soared to number five in today’s charts, according to the Official Charts Company.
This puts the Wham! song right up there with another festive classic, Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, which currently occupies number three on the singles chart.

George’s album Twenty Five has also risen, going up six places to register at number 13.
Sam Smith’s record The Thrill Of It All continues to soar, but has dropped out of the number one slot to make room for ÷, by Ed Sheeran.
Smith is at number two, just ahead of P!nk, whose album Beautiful Trauma is currently charting at number three.
Last week, George’s ex-boyfriend Fadi Fawaz said he believes he will never find love again.

The fine art dealer, who dated the Wham! star until his death, said George was his one true love.
Fadi said: “It is very sad you know. If he’s not here, he’s not here.
“There will never ever be a lover in my life after George.
“I do not have anyone in my life and there will never be anyone ever. That is the truth.”

It was also revealed last week that police had launched an investigation into how a 999 call, thought to be made by Fadi, was leaked to the media.
Two members of ambulance staff were interviewed by police as authorities sought to find the source of the leak.
