People are outraged at a kids book about black gay Santa’s husband
The internet has reacted with outrage to a children’s book which depicts Santa as a gay, married black man.
The book, ‘Santa’s Husband’ (Buy in the UK/ Buy in the US) created by writer Daniel Kibblesmith and his then-fiancée, author Jennifer Wright, describes the story as a “fresh new twist” on the traditional story of Santa Clause.
Kibblesmith and Wright joked that they had “decided our future child will only know about Black Santa.
“If they see a white one we’ll say ‘That’s his husband’”.

And within minutes illustrator A.P. Quach tweeted in reply: “boom. new children’s book,” and a new children’s book was born.
But not everybody sees the happy, diverse side to the tale.
One Twitter user, @LauraLoomer, attacked the news outlet CNN for featuring a segment on the book.
She wrote: “Soooooo @CNN is really trying to make “Santa’s Husband” a thing for children…”
Right-wing news blog WorldNetDaily also responded, simply tweeting: “[Degeneracy intensifies]”
Twitter user @southerbenz tweeted a photo of Kibblesmith with the words: “Daniel Kibblesmith, author of ‘Santa’s Husband.’ What a stupid time to be alive. ”
@DavidWall311 tweeted of his child’s apparent reaction to the book, writing: “First thing out of my daughters mouth “Santa’s husband? Santa is a boy”. Why are we trying to confuse kids these days! Just stop!!!”
But despite other users describing the book as “disgusting” and “crazy”, and accusing it of confusing innocent children, many tweeted their excitement at having ordered the book.
Twitter user @RubySoho71429 said: “Ok but that Santa’s Husband book looks wholesome and I want it really bad.”
@meeeryah26 added: “There is a book called “Santa’s Husband” and in it Santa is a gay, black man, in a interracial relationship with a white man.
“And this is my new favorite thing ever”
Inclusive portrayals of Christmas have often come under fire from anti-LGBT groups, with decorations that featured same-sex couples removed from an online craft store after complaints.
But one Twitter user boldly claimed that the Santa’s Husband book should become a movie – here’s hoping!
