Diana Ross partied the night away at a gay club – and it was amazing
Diana Ross has long been a gay icon.
She has a history of embracing the LGBT community, and her anthem I’m Coming Out is legendary.
And Ross further cemented her place in our hearts when she decided to pay a visit to The Abbey in West Hollywood, one of the most famous gay clubs in the US.
She made the crowd go wild by dancing as hard as she could to every track on Saturday night.
And when Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, the excitement hit fever pitch.
Ross grinned and grooved while her 29-year-old son Evan Ross – an actor who has starred in Pride and the Hunger Games series – watched on.
In 2015, Great British Bake Off star and food columnist Ruby Tandoh used I’m Coming Out to – well, come out.
And last year, the fact that Ariana Grande sampled the song in her track Break Your Heart Right Back was one of the reasons Billboard controversially named her its “gay icon of the generation”.
The former Supreme’s ongoing impact could also be seen when Ellen DeGeneres used her song titles to slam an anti-gay law in Mississippi.
The state’s religious freedom bill led Ellen to tell viewers of her show: “I’m not a political person, I’m really not.
“But this is not politics, this is human rights.”
She added that the issue was “very personal” to her, calling the law “the definition of discrimination.
“It is also something the Supreme Court ruled on when they made marriage a right for everyone. Everyone.”
Ellen continued: “The Supreme Court said something that Diana Ross and The Supremes said a long time ago – ‘stop, in the name of love’.
“Now Mississippi is saying: ‘I don’t second that emotion’.”
