New documentary about Orlando Pulse massacre soon to debut
A new documentary about the Orlando Pulse massacre will debut soon.
The film, 49 Pulses, by filmmaker Charlie Minn, will debut on 26 January on Orlando Fashion Square Mall theatre.
“My passion is to make a documentary about the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting in order to honor the victims,” Minn said to Orlando Weekly.
“I am fully aware of the sensitivity surrounding the tragedy and would never make such a movie unless it was to pay tribute to the victims by telling their stories of humanity and heroism. … My goals are to inform, educate and raise awareness for innocent victims stories that often gets horribly overlooked because of the attention given to the killer.”
The film looks at the 49 people killed, at least 68 injured and has testimonies of survivors, family members of victims and police recordings.
Minn will also appear on 24 January to discuss the filmmaking process.
The film will then be available via Hoopla Digital from 28 January.
This is not the first time Minn’s films have covered mass shootings.
His last documentary, 77 Minutes, looks at the McDonald’s mass shooting in San Diego.
He is also working on films around the Las Vegas shootings from 2017.
In June 2016, a gunman opened inside the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
49 people lost their lives in the attack, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings on US soil in recent history.
Many of the victims were LGBT and members of the Latino community.
911 recordings later revealed that the gunman had pledged allegiance to the Islamist terrorist group known as ISIS.
The nightclub permanently closed in the wake of the attack. The nightclub’s owner Barbara Poma rejected a bid from the city to buy the club and turn it into a public memorial, but plans to open her own memorial on the site.
It was revealed last year that the nightclub itself may open in a new location under a new name.
