Oscar nominations 2018: Call Me By Your Name’s Timothée Chalamet up for Best Actor award
Timothée Chalamet has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
The star received the nod for his performance in the hit gay film Call Me by Your Name.
The film has been nominated in a total of four categories, including Best Film.
Its song, Mystery Of Love, was nominated for Best Original Song, and the film has also been included in the Adapted Screenplay category.
A Fantastic Woman, a Chilean film which deals with transgender issues, has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.
Unfortunately, Norwegian lesbian horror film Thelma missed out on a nomination in the same category.
And 28-year-old Daniela Vega – who has received rave reviews for her central role in A Fantastic Woman – did not receive a personal nomination.
The film sees her character Marina deal with her beloved partner Orlando’s death and his family’s transphobia, while trying to find her identity without him.
Beauty and the Beast, which sparked controversy across the world last year by including an “exclusively gay moment,” has notched two nominations, for its costume design and production design.
Disney cancelled screenings of the film in Malaysia after censors tried to take the brief implication of a same-sex flirtation out of the picture.
Chalamet has vowed to donate his entire fee for his next film to charity.
New York’s LGBT Community Centre, Time’s Up and sexual abuse charity RAINN will receive all the money he was due to get for his part in Woody Allen’s movie A Rainy Day in New York, Chalamet has said.
The actor, whose performance alongside Armie Hammer earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a drama, took the step because he didn’t want to “profit” from working with Allen.
Allen’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow has accused the Annie Hall director of sexually assaulting her when she was seven.
And Chalamet said that since agreeing to star in the film, his perspective on which parts he chooses to play has shifted.
During last year’s Oscars, Moonlight picked up the award for Best Film – eventually.
