Mary Berry’s new Britain’s Best Cook co-star Dan Doherty apologises for anti-gay tweets

Mary Berry’s new co-star Dan Doherty has apologised after a string of anti-gay tweets emerged.
He apparently deleted the offensive posts after they resurfaced, however, one seemingly anti-trans slur still remains on his account at the time of publication.
Doherty, who will present BBC One’s upcoming show Britain’s Best Cook alongside Berry, made the posts in 2013 and 2014.

Doherty wrote to one user: “I’d retweet that if you weren’t all gay and private.”
In an exchange with someone who messaged him with kisses, he said simply: “Don’t be gay.”
And he called fellow chef Tom Cenci a “c***” for posting photos of him in which he was “looking like a rejected member of the village people”.

Cenci is Executive Chef at London’s successful Duck & Waffle restaurant, where Doherty is the Chef Director.
In a statement given to The Sun, Doherty said: “I would like to apologise unreservedly for the language used in these tweets from four years ago and have now deleted them.
“These tweets are not a reflection of my beliefs and I deeply regret any offence caused.”
He has indeed removed the anti-gay posts from his profile, but has left one tweet in which he replies to two other users with the words: “and a tranny cat.”

Doherty will judge creations on the new show with Berry and author Chris Bavin, with Claudia Winkleman acting as host.
The rising culinary star is the latest in a long line of celebrities whose offensive online posts have resurfaced in the last few months.

And Gay Times editor Josh Rivers was sacked after it was discovered that he had tweeted offensive comments.
Rivers insulted transgender people, lesbians, women in general, Jews, Asians, Africans, the homeless, anyone he thought was “fat” or a “retard” – and old people.
