Megan Mullally didn’t realise Ellen DeGeneres was a lesbian when they first met
Will and Grace star Megan Mullally has opened up about her 30-year strong friendship with Ellen DeGeneres, remarking that it took her years to realise that she was a lesbian.
Appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres show, the actor revealed that at the start of their decades-strong friendship, she thought that Ellen just had “lots of lovely roommates”, and would often come to visit from her house the street over in Los Angeles.
“I remember thinking, ‘Oh, that’s nice, Ellen has this lovely roommate … they really seem like they get along great,’” the actress said on the show.
“And then, as the years went on, [she] had a lot of really lovely roommates, and I thought, ‘Ellen just gets along so well with people. People are just drawn to her like a magnet.’”
It appears that Ellen and her girlfriends would have a lot of laughs at the actor’s expense, who eventually cottoned on.
“I remember you’d be, like, cracking up,” she told DeGeneres, “and I’d be like, ‘Why are they laughing at me?’”
“Really, you didn’t realize I was gay?” Ellen asked Mullally.
“I did not, no,” the actress replied.
Fans could not believe that the TV personality turned 60 on January 26.
She has been married to actress Portia De Rossi since 2008.
Mullally has returned to the screens as the one and only Karen for a reprisal of hit TV show Will and Grace.
She is married to Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman.
