Adam Rippon responds to Sally Field’s attempt to set him up with her son

Adam Rippon has responded to Sally Field’s attempts to get him to go out with her son.
Rippon has secured a bronze medal for Team USA and a place in his viewers’ hearts during his time at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
As well as speaking out about being gay, he has also opened up about his body image issues and starving himself, and yesterday turned down a commentary job to support his teammates.

And it seems that Field’s son, director Sam Greisman, has been particularly struck by the athlete’s performances and outspoken nature.
He has been open about his admiration of Rippon on Twitter, riffing on the “Nothing but respect for MY president” meme to tell followers: “Nothing but respect for my Olympic prince.”

Greisman also spoke about how meaningful it was for him to see Rippon be openly and proudly gay at the Olympics, in front of the world.
“I hate being earnest but an openly, ‘non-passing’, sassy, beautiful gay 20-something daring America not to love him and becoming the sweetheart of the Olympic Games is very moving to me,” he wrote.

The director followed this up by joking: “Glad so many people liked this, but if you could slide it into Adam’s DMs that would be great too.”

As well as his fans, he also told his mum.
And the double-Oscar-winning actress, who has starred in Forrest Gump, Mrs Doubtfire and Lincoln, is in a better position than most to actually influence the situation.
Greisman tweeted a screenshot of his text conversation with Field, who had told him: “Sam… he’s insanely pretty.

“Find a way.”
Now that’s motherly encouragement.
Greisman captioned the picture: “Just some really helpful advice from my mom on how to deal with my Olympic crush.”

It was all very nice and heartwarming – but then Field raised the stakes.
She gave her son the ultimate push, and tagged Rippon in a quote-tweet.

Greisman, it seems, was not expecting that.
He responded: “Yikes.”

After her son’s shocked response, Field told BuzzFeed: “Sam was mortified.”
But she wasn’t giving up.
“I have to bud out now..but I would like to see Adam in the family,” said the legendary actress.

And when BuzzFeed asked Rippon himself about the situation, the skater praised Field, saying: “She bold.”
Speaking to Greisman, he added: “Sam, your mum – I admire her. And I’m sure one day we’re going to meet! So thanks, mum.”
The dream lives on.
