Google Doodle tells a beautiful trans love story to mark International Women’s Day
Google Doodle is celebrating International Women’s Day with a bittersweet transgender love story. And it has given us all the feels.
The Doodle is one of 12 shared to celebrate International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8 March.
The collection of Doodles celebrates different aspects of life as a woman, whether that be living as a trans person, a refugee or a single mother, for example.
Some artists expressed their work as poems, and others used visual art to send a message.
But one, Love, by Laerte, celebrates a transgender love story which will probably make you say “NO, YOU’RE CRYING
The story, told as a short comic strip, shows the trans woman go on a date with a man to the cinema.

They look happy together until she accidentally drops an old ID card revealing her trans status.
But despite storming off, she pursues him and SPOILER they end up happy together.
The head of Googles Doodle programme said: “We hope that the combined power of words and images help bring these stories to life in a way that invokes feelings of understanding, empathy, and spirit of the day.”

The Doodles have been translated in 80 languages and are available on Google today.
But not all celebrated IWD as perfectly as Google.
The Pope refused to attend a Catholic International Women’s Day event and the Vatican refused to host it – because one of the speakers is a lesbian.
One McDonalds in the US did make headlines for turning its Golden Arches upside down – in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Champion Olympic boxer Nicola Adams was also immortalised in a Barbie doll to mark International Women’s Day.
