A Riverdale character has come out as bisexual, and fans are overjoyed with her blossoming romance

Riverdale has another bisexual character after head cheerleader and all-round badass Cheryl Blossom came out in the latest episode.
Madelaine Petsch, who plays Cheryl on the dark CW and Netflix show about Archie Comics characters, revealed last week that Cheryl was “definitely interested in both women and men”.
And in an emotional scene with prominent bisexual lighting, Cheryl opened up about her sexuality to Toni Topaz, who also came out as bi earlier this season.

Toni and Cheryl are among several Netflix characters to reveal their bisexuality in the past year, including Darryl Whitefeather on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Adam on Jane The Virgin.
The tear-jerking scene also excited viewers who have long believed in the popular fan theory that Cheryl and Toni would end up together.
After seeing Love, Simon together, Cheryl explains to Toni why she cried during the film, tearing up again as she talks about how Simon “stopped being [a] happy kid because he was hiding a secret.”

She adds: “Everyone thinks I’m this loveless monster, but it isn’t true.
“I loved someone who loved me. But my mother destroyed it.”
Toni asks if this person is Jason, Cheryl’s brother whose mysterious murder was the main storyline of season one.

But the head of the River Vixens shakes her head, saying: “No. Not JJ.”
She breathes the word “her” before composing herself and saying: “Her name was Heather.”
With tears running down her face, Cheryl explained: “She was my best friend in junior high.
“She used to sleep over every weekend until one night, my mother caught us in the same bed.

“She said I was deviant.”
Because she’s a constant voice of reason and generally amazing, Toni tells her: “Cheryl, I am so sorry. But you have to know your mother’s wrong.
“You’re not loveless. You’re not deviant, okay?”
And reaching out to take Cheryl’s hand, she adds: “You’re sensational.”

Riverdale’s main actors took to Twitter to speak out about their love for the scene, with Petsch saying simply: “I have nothing witty to say I just love this moment in the script”.

The beautiful coming out sequence may heal wounds felt by those who accused the show of queerbaiting after main characters Betty and Veronica kissed each other but ended up in straight relationships.
It has certainly delighted a great many fans this week.
