Russell Tovey says he couldn’t date another performer and he needs ‘calming’ influence

Actor Russell Tovey has opened up about his relationship, saying he couldnt date another performer as he needs a “calming” influence.
The actor discussed various themes in an essay for the Guardian.
He was writing on “living well” for the Guardian and opens up about being a “worrier”.

The star recently announced his engagement to his fiance Steve Brockman, saying he didn’t expect to get engaged.
He wrote: “I’m definitely a worrier, I get it from my mum. She has always gone from zero to panic in seconds. I’ll be flapping about and Steve, my fiancé, will say: ‘Chill out, give it 10 minutes.'”
The star conitnued: “I can’t be with someone who is like me; I need a calming influence in a partner. I couldn’t be with another performer – I can’t have that anxiety.”
Talking about sex and maturity, Tovey added: “When I passed my driving test or started having sex I panicked because I didn’t feel old enough. I’ve always been someone who feels like they need to catch up or pretend to be ready for these things, but in my head I’m not, I’m thinking: ‘Get out of the car and stop having sex!’
“Now I feel like I can legit do sex and do driving – I’ve caught up with it. I’m finally ready at 36.”
The 36-year-old had his breakout role in the BBC show Being Human and has since become an international star.

In an interview prior to the release of his film The Pass, the actor said that being gay was the best thing to happen to him and that playing gay characters had elevated his career.
The star said he realised his sexuality at 14, and never looked back.
“Honestly, it’s the best thing that ever happened to me, being gay,’ Tovey said. ‘It’s made my career.”
