Adam Rippon finally met Sally Field’s son Sam Greisman and it was glorious

Sally Field’s efforts have paid off as her son Sam Greisman finally met gay Olympian and heartthrob Adam Rippon.

The figure skater had a spectacular Winter Olympics on and off the ice while becoming – as he put it – “America’s sweetheart.”

His amazing Olympic performance and hilarious media appearances since returning to the US have caused a lot of crushes, including one from director Sam Greisman.

The 30-year-old director Greisman has had a crush on Rippon, who secured a bronze medal for Team USA and a place in his viewers’ hearts during his time at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

As well as telling his fans about his crush, Greisman made the rookie mistake of telling his mother, double-Oscar-winning actress Sally Field.

Field then took it on herself to share the news with the whole world, trying to set her son up by tweeting Rippon.

Rippon responded at the time: “Sam, your mum – I admire her. And I’m sure one day we’re going to meet! So thanks, mum.”

Now her efforts have finally paid off.

Exciting fans of the pair everywhere, Rippon and Greisman met as Rippon was honoured by the Human Rights Campaign, who gave the Olympian a visibility award.

Greisman took to Twitter to post a photo of him and Rippon at the event, captioning it “thanks, mom.”

Greisman has been open about his admiration of Rippon on Twitter, riffing on the “Nothing but respect for MY president” meme to tell followers: “Nothing but respect for my Olympic prince.”

Greisman also spoke about how meaningful it was for him to see Rippon be openly and proudly gay at the Olympics, in front of the world.

“I hate being earnest but an openly, ‘non-passing’, sassy, beautiful gay 20-something daring America not to love him and becoming the sweetheart of the Olympic Games is very moving to me,” he wrote.

The director followed this up by joking: “Glad so many people liked this, but if you could slide it into Adam’s DMs that would be great too.”

This isn’t the first time Field has publicly supported her son.

In 2014, she wrote a heartfelt letter about raising him, saying that being a part of his journey was “one of the great privileges of my life”.

And the next year, she said she was horrified by parents who disapproved of their gay children.

Media sensation Rippon made headlines once again with his appearance at the Oscars, where he wore a custom leather harness as part of his tuxedo.

On Twitter after the ceremony, he explained his iconic fashion choice by saying: “I think fashion is all about self-expression and I chose to wear what I wore on the red carpet because I felt cool AF.”
