Buffy the Vampire Slayer is in line for a reboot
Buffy the Vampire Slayer may be about to become the next fan favourite to get the reboot treatment.
A Fox official hinted that the company is in talks about the future of cult 90’s series that spanned over six years before ending in 2003.
Speaking at the INTV Conference in Jerusalem, Fox TV group chair Gary Newman said that Buffy “is probably the most ripe show we have for bringing back”.
“It’s something we talk about frequently and Joss Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with,” Newman said.
However, he insisted that he was not announcing a definite come back because he “wouldn’t get out of the building alive” if he did.
He added that when “Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it.
“And until Joss decides it’s time, it won’t happen.”
The network recently revived The X-Files, 24 and Prison Break.
Newman explained that the decision to bring back the shows was largely made if the creator came back to the network and said they had another story to tell.
“It seems to me that if there isn’t a real sense of nostalgia, a passionate fan base demonstrating they still want it then I don’t really buy bringing these shows back,” he said.
He added that revivals are often a good “marketing opportunity” because they already have an established and strong fan base.
“People are aware of the show, you don’t have to build awareness.
“If the show’s beloved, you get a great deal of intent to view right from the get-go,” he said.
Buffy became a fan favourite amongst the LGBTQ community after it became the first show to air a lesbian kiss.
Amber Benson and Alyson Hannigan played lesbian witches Willow Rosenburg and Tara Maclay on the series.
At a reunion with the rest of the Buffy cast, the two actors spoke about their beautiful on-screen relationship.
In an interview in EW, Hannigan explained that she did not initially twig when she was told by Whedon that her character, who initially dated men, would get a girlfriend.

She said: “We were walking in the parking lot, and [Joss] just said, ‘Willow’s going to get a friend, and she’s going to be a special friend.’ I was like, ‘Okay, great!’ I didn’t really know what that meant.”
Of the years-long plot, she said: “You got to see the journey, so that, I think, was very groundbreaking, and … I’ve never had anything but just such a positive reaction.
“It’s just been such a profound thing for people who were going through the same thing or just terrified of what they were going to have to go through and just to see somebody that they had been watching for so many years to get to not feel so alone, it’s like it’s such a gift to be able to be part of that.”
She added: “There definitely hadn’t been a gay character that had been on a show from the beginning [before Buffy]. This was a character that you got to see the journey, that was very groundbreaking.
“The fact that it was such a non-issue was so great, and that’s how it should be.”
Benson said: “It was a beautiful relationship, and it wasn’t gratuitous, it wasn’t about two girls making out, it was about two people who both happen to identify as a female who fall in love.
“They were good to each other, they treated each other way. It was a normal relationship. You normalise it, and make it okay because it is okay.
“We got a lot of young letters… there were a lot of young people who felt very isolated, and to see two characters on a television show be accepted by a group of peers changed the game.
“They already loved Willow but then to see that Willow became somebody that they could identify with it made it okay for them to be who they were.”
Last year, Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar took to social media to share her trip to get manicures with her son.
The 40-year-old, who has two kids with husband Freddie Prinze Jr, brought 5-year-old Rocky with her when she was getting her nails done.
She shared the pics on her Instagram Story, showing the mother-and-son’s set of matching sparkly black nails – while Rocky’s sister, Charlotte, opted for the blue.
The actress wrote: “We Match!”
The inclusive parenting won praise from her fans.
One wrote: “I literally would have killed for this as a child.”
Another added: “Sarah Michelle Gellar lets her son get his nails painted. If she isn’t mom goals, and an example of good parenting… Then, I don’t know what is.”
