Exclusive: Courtney Act defends Robbie Turner fatal Uber crash claims amid rife speculation
Courtney Act has backed RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Robbie Turner amid speculation over whether her Uber car crash took place.
Robbie Turner last week claimed to have been in a fatal car crash that killed her Uber driver, which she says she escaped from “with barely a scratch.”
Turner – real name Jeremy Baird – wrote on Twitter: “I just woke up. I’ve been in a car accident… My driver did not survive.”
The crash claim has drawn speculation from fellow RuPaul contestants as a Seattle Police spokesperson stated: “I am not aware of anything like that occurring, nor are any of my colleagues aware of this accident.”
A representative from Uber also said that none of their drivers had been involved in a drink-driving accident.
However, 2018 Celebrity Big Brother winner Courtney Act told PinkNews people should be “supporting and having empathy” for Turner’s car crash claims.
She said: “I would like to defer to BenDeLaCreme who made a tweet that I think was really important – people want to poke and prod: is this a lie, or is this the truth? Why did you do [it]?
“Rather than looking to tear down, why don’t we look at supporting and having empathy for either the comments or the reasons the comments were made.”
Courtney Act also revealed her take on Shania Twain’s recent public support for Donald Trump.
Act told PinkNews: “I think she chose her words really poorly.
“She likes the fact the Trump was not a politician and so she thought people could connect with him on that level.
“It is kind of a weird statement to make – she said she wasn’t quite aware – she might be Canadian but you’ve got to be living under a rock to not realise that Donald Trump is a bit of a bellend.”
Courtney Act also clarified her stance on the crossover between drag and transgender identity.
“It depends on the individual person and how they identify – if they identify as a trans and as a drag queen.
“I think for somebody like Bianca Del Rio there is absolutely no intersection between her gender and her drag.
“For somebody like me, I think there is intersection. I don’t identify as trans because I think the trans identity is something specific and it is a whole journey unto itself.
“I describe myself as genderfluid and somebody who does drag.”
Act also opened up about her love life and feeling ‘disgruntled’, as she answered PinkNews readers’ questions at The Glory, in London.
She said: “I’ve had two boyfriends who I’ve definitely been in love with.
“You go into it expecting it to be this Hollywood movie style of love, and then you get in there and you realise that probably is make believe.
“And the expectation that love should be like that is probably something that makes you feel let down and disgruntled ultimately.
“Connecting with somebody and having that special feeling – even though everything is not perfect – you have enough of that connection, that all of a sudden you realise ‘I love this person’.”
Act also revealed the career she would have liked to pursue if she had not been a drag queen.
“I like science-based health stuff – there’s a lot of fascinating stuff about gut health. How interesting is this? I’m going to start talking about poo in a minute,” she joked.
“There’s so much misinformation out there about health, diet and lifestyle – especially from big food companies.”
