Lena Waithe, Greg Berlanti and Dominic Barton to be honoured by the Trevor Project

Screenwriter Lena Waithe, television showrunner Greg Berlanti and Managing Partner of global consulting firm McKinsey & Company Dominic Barton are set to be honoured by the Trevor Project on June 11.
The talented trio’s continuing support of the organisation will be recognised at its TrevorLIVE gala in New York’s Cipriani Wall Street.
Both Waithe, 33, and Berlanti, 45, will receive the non-profit’s Hero Award. Barton – on the other hand – is set to be given the 20/20 Visionary Award, an accolade that gives credit to corporations that publicly support the LGBTQ community and present an empowering message for young, queer people in regards to their futures.

Waithe made history in 2017 by becoming the first black woman to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for the Master of None episode ‘Thanksgiving.’
She previously opened up about how she drew on her own past experiences so that she could portray her character, Denise, coming out to her family as accurately as possible.
Earlier this year, her drama series The Chi debuted on Showtime and she appeared in a supporting role in Steven Spielberg’s nostalgia-filled fantasy thriller Ready Player One.

She also graced the cover of Vanity Fair for its April 2018 issue, which many fans recognised as proof of how she’s “changing the game.”
Berlanti is perhaps best known for being one of the creators of small screen superhero saga the Arrowverse.
Along with fellow creatives Marc Guggenheim, Geoff Johns, Ali Adler, Phil Klemmer and Andrew Kreisberg, he has written and produced shows such as Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. He also executive produces DC Comics’ series Black Lightning and mystery-filled teen-drama Riverdale.

His previous television credits include Political Animals, Everwood and Dawson’s Creek. More recently, however, he directed acclaimed romantic comedy-drama Love, Simon, a big screen adaptation of the well-loved young adult novel Simon vs.The Homo Sapiens Agenda.
Barton, within the world of business, is an open advocate for promoting diverse and varied talent in order to grow success.
At McKinsey & Company, he actively seeks out and engages with young, enterprising people whom he feels can bring about positive change in both business and society.
The Trevor Project works to prevent suicide among gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. It was founded by the creators of the Academy Award-winning short film TREVOR in March 1998.
Previous well-known names that have been honoured by the organisation include Katy Perry, Nathan Lane, Jane Lynch, Dustin Lance Black, Cheyenne Jackson, Daniel Radcliffe, Lady Gaga and Sir Ian McKellen.
