Ruth Davidson announces that she is expecting a child with her fiancée
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson has announced that she is pregnant with her first child.
Davidson revealed her pregnancy on Twitter, posting a photo of her, her fiancée and their dog Wilson to share the happy news.
“Our little family of three is becoming four…” Davidson wrote on Thursday.
In a statement, Davidson said that both her and her fiancée Jennifer Wilson were “overjoyed” to be expecting.
She wrote: “Jen and I are delighted to announce that I am expecting our first child in the late Autumn.
“Like all new parents-to-be we are excited — and daunted — about the months to come. Mostly, we are just overjoyed at the prospect of starting a family together.”
Davidson told voters that her commitment to politics had not changed, and that her constituents and voters would not need to worry.
She stressed that while her political position made her announcement notable, many women combine working and pregnancy each year.
“I’m simply doing what thousands of working women do every year: having a child, taking some time off and then returning to work soon after,” she said.
Davidson stood for the Conservatives in the Glasgow North East by-election in 2009 before becoming an MSP in 2011 and elected the leader of the Scottish Conservatives in 2014.
