Anthony Scaramucci tried to compare Trump’s Stormy Daniels payoff to gay marriage
Erstwhile White House staffer Anthony Scaramucci raised eyebrows on CNN this week with a claim that Trump’s payoff to Stormy Daniels doesn’t matter, because of same-sex marriage.
Scaramucci, who served as White House Communications Director for ten days in July 2017, was deployed on CNN to defend Trump after more revelations about the President’s alleged payoff to porn star Stormy.
The Trump administration has been under fire this week after the President’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani admitted that Trump had reimbursed his legal team the $130,000 that was paid to Daniels in exchange for her silence about an affair ahead of the 2016 Presidential election.
Experts say the payment would be a violation of campaign finance rules, but Scaramucci took a bizarre line to deflect from the scandal.
He said: “In 2008 Barack Obama said he was for non-same sex marriages… we have a cultural movement now to where we accept marriage equality, and I’ve been for that for 15 years.
“We should have a cultural movement again where public officials should be left alone to do in their personal lives what they do.
“What happens is they get tangled up and start to position themselves in a certain way… President Clinton did that, President Trump has had to do that, and I think it’s unfair to both of those people and I think we should knock it off.”

CNN’s Chris Cuomo responded: “The Obama example about marriage equality, that has nothing to do with paying off a porn star.”
Scaramucci insisted: “It actually does. We are in a cultural situation today where I don’t care what people are doing in their bedroom, public officials or non-public officials.
“We should move the curve in that direction, and we should focus on the things the President is doing for the country, not his personal life.”
“We should just relax on some of these stories and let him execute his strategy.”
The Mooch previously said he was “misrepresented” by the media during his time under Trump.
Speaking to TMZ, he said: “I have, for the last decade, been an active gay rights and marriage equality supporter, particularly here in New York City but [also] around the world.
“I think that when they wrote ‘life, liberty , and the pursuit of happiness’, it wasn’t just meant for straight people. For me, I’m a very active gay rights supporter.
“In addition to that, even though I’m a Roman Catholic and I believe in a right to life, I would never impose those values on other people.
“I’m actually very socially inclusive as a human being, and I’m a Republican because I believe that you need free market principles to create class mobility.”
Asked if the President shared his views, Scaramucci said: “I can’t speak for him. I can only speak for myself.”
During his time in the White House, Scaramucci gained notoriety as a hothead after telling a journalist that White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon was “trying to suck his own c**k”.
Also during the short period that “gay rights activist” Scaramucci was serving under Trump, the Justice Department filed a legal brief opposing legal protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation.
