Cher the musical’s Broadway dates have been announced
Fans of legendary songstress Cher will be excited to hear that the first showing of the Broadway musical about her life has been announced.
The musical, named The Cher Show, will begin its career at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre from 12 June through 15 July, with a cast also performing at The Great White Way’s Neil Simon Theatre in New York later in the year.
As well as taking fans on a journey through Cher’s life, the show will also feature some of her greatest hits, right through from I Got You Babe to Believe.
“The kid on a tricycle, vowing to be famous. The teenage phenom who crashes by twenty. The glam TV star who quits at the top. The would-be actress with an Oscar. The rock goddess with a hundred million records sold. The legend who’s done it all, still scared to walk on stage,” reads the production’s description.
“The wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend. The woman, looking for love. The ultimate survivor, chasing her dream. They’re all here, dressed to kill, singing their asses off, telling it like it is. And they’re all the star of The Cher Show,” it adds.
Cher will be played by Teal Wicks, who has been critically acclaimed for her performances in Wicked and Finding Neverland.
Plans to release the musical based on the singer’s life were confirmed in June 2017.
The artist herself took to Twitter – complete with her trademark usage of emojis – to announce the show.
“Just got off phone w/Writer & Director of musical,” Cher tweeted.
“There Will [be] performance in THEATRE WITH ACTORS,DANCERS,SINGERS!! IT’ll [be] ON BROADWAY 2018”.
We’re also personally incredibly excited about Cher’s upcoming appearance in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
The icon takes a leading role as Donna’s mother in the film, which is based on a compilation of ABBA’s best bangers.
Oh, and they’re making a comeback too.
In April, the Swedish pop sensations announced that they will be making a musical comeback and will be releasing two new songs.
The super troupers, who celebrated nine number one hits in the UK during their spellbinding career, announced on Instagram that they had decided to “join forces again and return to the recording studio.”
The Broadway previews for Cher’s musical will begin on November 1, with the show officially opening on December 3.
