After weeks of anticipation, Demi Lovato‘s latest anthem with Christina Aguilera is everything we’ve been waiting for.
In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, two of the most powerful artists in pop have teamed up to release Fall In Line — which is a tuneful takedown of society’s expectations of women.
“Little girls, listen closely/’Cause no one told me/But you deserve to know/That in this world, you are not beholden/You do not owe them your body and your soul,” the pair belt out on the track.
Aguilera, who is known for her roster of female empowerment anthems (anyone remember the supreme dance off in Can’t Hold Us Down?) roped in Lovato after she heard Lovato’s “next level” vocals.
“We went through a few names of women. I needed a belty singer, and she took it to the next level. I almost cried when I first heard her on the record,” she said.
Naturally, the song has already been touted as a queer anthem.
Queer Twitter has come out in droves to celebrate the banger — with some hilarious lyrical amendments to boot, naturally.
It appears that the rest of the world is in agreement over the anthem as it topped the US iTunes chart on Thursday evening.
The pair will also be performing the duet live at the Billboard Music Awards on 20 May. Eek.
Lovato is a long-time supporter of the LGBT+ community — and is also known for mysteriously alluding to the fact she is LGBT+ herself.
New rumours about Demi’s sexual orientation surfaced after she was spotted holding hands with another woman in September.
Although the singer has previously stated she would not openly discuss her sexuality, she said that she is “very fluid” in March.
“I think love is love,” the singer said to InStyle.
