Peter Mandelson says Royal Wedding made him want to marry his partner

Lord Peter Mandelson has revealed that the Royal Wedding has inspired him to wed his long-term partner.
The gay former business secretary said that although he has lived with his partner for 20 years, this is the first time he’s felt the urge, he revealed on ITV’s Peston on Sunday.
“People all over the country are going to feel inspired, they are all going to want to run out and get married now,” he told the show.

“Even I am now wondering whether I should finally tie the knot with my partner after 20 years of living together.”
“Are you going to?” probed Peston.

“Well, now I’m thinking about it. We need a discussion about it I think,” he told the presenter.
Lord Mandelson has lived with partner Reinaldo Avila da Silva since 1998.
The New Labour architect and the Brazilian-born translator share a home in London’s Regent’s Park.
Mandelson, who is normally tight-lipped about the relationship, said that “it would be very private.”

“That would be a state occasion wouldn’t it?” asked Peston.
“No, no, it would be very private. But it just made me so happy [on Saturday].”
Although Peston asked the politician to propose down the eye of the camera, the New Labour architect cheerfully declined the offer.

The former Labour politician also said the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are a “complete credit to their family.”
“I think that Harry and Meghan, but also William and Kate, are a complete credit to their family and to the job they are doing,” he told the show.
“And, I think they have probably secured the royal family and the monarchy for a long time to come.”
Prince Harry and Meghan married at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday.
Sir Elton John, Amal and George Clooney and Victoria and David Beckham were just a few of the attendees who gathered for the star-studded ceremony.
