Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness trolls US treasury secretary’s wife on Instagram
Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness has trolled US treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin’s wife Louise Linton on Instagram, saying she has a “head full of terrible extensions.”
Van Ness hit out at the Republican politician’s wife during a live taping of his podcast Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness, reports Page Six.
Speaking to the audience on Sunday, which included his Queer Eye co-stars Tan France and Antoni Porowski, Van Ness launched a rant against the treasure secretary and his partner.
“You know who I really hate?” he asked, “Mnuchin, the Treasury Secretary, who has this Scottish wife, who’s a nightmare and she has a head full of terrible extensions.”
Van Ness added: “She’s kind of like the Republican Erika Jayne, but I like Erika Jayne. She’s got like the knock-off bad version of Erika Jayne’s hair.”
The grooming expert and Gay of Thrones star then explained a story in which Linton had posted a photo of her in designer clothing getting on to a private jet on Instagram.
Linton’s post was later criticised by US writer Jennifer Miller, who commented on the image: “Glad we could pay for your little getaway #deplorable.”
Linton retaliated by asking Miller “Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband?” and branding the writer as “adorably out of touch.”
Van Ness asked the crowd: “Did you guys see that story? … Should we all get on Instagram and say something weird to her right now?
“This is really a lesson in two wrongs do make a right and it also shows that hell hath no fury like a gay man who saw a news article that they did not like.”
Van Ness then got audience members to respond to a photo posted by Linton on Instagram on February 14 by leaving the same comment, which compared her to US actor Erika Jayne: “You’re not @theprettymess [Jayne’s handle] … We remember.”
Some 72 people in the audience commented on Linton’s post, as instructed by Van Ness, including his co-stars France and Porowski.
Last month, Van Ness posted on Instagram about his own impressive transformation, after losing 70 pounds. He initially put on the weight after his step dad passed away in 2012.
In March, Netflix confirmed that Queer Eye would be returning to our screens for Season 2.
