Fans praise Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato’s video for feminist track ‘Fall in Line’

Twitter fans have praised Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato’s music video for track ‘Fall in Line’, which urges young girls to own their bodies and ambitions – and not conform to societal expectations.
The new video depicts Aguilera and Lovato as children playing in a meadow, before they are captured and taken to an oppressive, male-run prison.
The pair eventually fight their way out of the underground jail, returning to the fields outside.
Lyrics from the song, which is addressed to “little girls”, include “you’re more than flesh and bones,” and “You do not owe them / Your body and your soul.”
Fans on social media have lauded the video for its feminist and patriarchal-smashing message.

One Twitter user wrote: “This. Is. Such. An. Important. Message. Buy the song, listen to it on repeat and make sure that you are empowering, supporting and encouraging the women/girls in your life.”

The video already has more than two million views on YouTube.
Aguilera described the track on Twitter as “as much about supporting each other as it is about self-empowerment.”
She added: “I wanted to convey that in this video by visually representing the imprisonment that so many of us have felt, and the freedom we can achieve TOGETHER.”

Posting the video on Twitter, Lovato wrote: “So proud to be a part of this powerful video. The message of women supporting each other through their struggles is so important to me.”
The track marks the first time Aguilera has worked with another female artist in 17 years. The last time was her famous “Lady Marmalade” collaboration with Pink, Mya and Lil’ Kim in 2001.
‘Fall in Line’ is the third track to be released from Aguilera’s highly-anticipated, comeback album Liberation.
Liberation, Aguilera’s sixth studio album, drops on June 15 and promises 11 tracks heavily inspired by hip hop and R&B.
“To me, there’s nothing like an amazing hip-hop beat,” Aguilera told Billboard.
“When you strip back the words ‘pop star’ and the many things that I’ve done, singing soulfully is where my core, my root and my heart really is. And as you can see, it’s what I’m inspired by,” she said.
