Lorde’s sister Indy Yelich-O’Connor comes out as bisexual

Lorde‘s sister Indy Yelich-O’Connor has come out as bisexual.

The 19-year-old took to Twitter on Tuesday (May 29) to share the news, keeping things short and sweet by simply writing “plot twist (I like boys and girls).”

Shortly after tweeting, the New Zealand-born author screengrabbed the statement and shared it via an Instagram story, making sure that all of her followers on every platform were up to speed with her sexuality.

Her announcement was met with overwhelmingly positive messages with one fan writing they were proud of her, even if they do hope that, “one day we’ll live in a world where this won’t be considered a plot twist”.

Many sent hilarious memes while several others sent Yelich-O’Connor heart emojis or called her a ‘bi queen.’

Another said: “Love! Every moment contributing to personal identity building is so incredibly valuable!”

Yet another Twitter user responded with a heartfelt message, saying: “And after the plot twist there’s a happy ending because we love and support you all the way, no matter what and I happen to be gay so today’s going to be a good day!! Indy you’re amazing, never doubt love!”

Today (May 30), Yelich-O’Connor – who is currently based in the US – returned to social media to thank all of her fans for being “so loving and supportive.” She wrote: “Today was so amazing. I had so many messages of support & the sun was shining, and I just love New York.”

“So grateful for my life and all the people in it. And I can’t wait for my book tour.”

Yelich-O’Connor recently wrote ‘Sticky Notes’, her first, published poetry book which is said to “chronicle her experiences with love, travel, and self-discovery in a shifting physical and emotional geography.”

Interestingly, Yelich-O’Connor and Lorde‘s (whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor) mother is an award-winning poet having written collections such as Clung and Get Some, so it seems as if she’s following in her parent’s footsteps.

The sisters’ father is a civil engineer while Lorde, of course, is a chart-topping singer-songwriter.

Lorde, 21, and Yelich-O’Connor were last seen together at 60th Annual Grammy Awards in New York City in January, where the Green Light hitmaker was up for Album of the Year for her latest record Melodrama. Despite bringing her younger sibling along for good luck though, the accolade ended up going to Bruno Mars for 24K Magic.
