Netflix has commissioned a series based on the music of Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton fans, rejoice: Netflix has commissioned a series based on the musical mastery of Dolly Parton.

The series will comprise of eight episodes focused on a different hit anthem from the singer each time, reported Variety.

Parton will feature as singer a and songwriter in the show, as well as executive produce and co-star.

The musician announced the news on Twitter.

“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music. I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with @Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations. ”

Netflix also joined in to share the news.

“@DollyParton and her music are headed to Netflix! The living legend will serve as singer/songwriter, co-star, and executive producer on a new anthology series where every episode is based on an iconic Dolly Parton song,” tweeted the service.


The Netflix project will be produced by Parton’s Dixie Pixie Productions and Sam Haskell’s Magnolia Hill Entertainment in association with Warner Bros Television, reports Variety.

Lily Tomlin broke the news of the potential series when she was asked about whether or not Parton would appear in Netflix hit Grace & Frankie.

Parton appeared in comedy film 9 To 5 back in the Eighties alongside Jane Fonda and Tomlin – with the eponymous anthem to match.

Tomlin revealed that Parton was too busy with her own project to participate, sparking rumours of the potential series.

Tomlin elaborated that the show would be based on Parton’s songs, and when asked if Parton would be starring, she said “yes, when the script called for it,” reported Deadline.

This is not the first time the singer has been a star on screen.

Although an exact date has not been announced for the show’s arrival, it appears that we’ve not got *too* long to wait.

The series will arrive on our screens in 2019.
