Nick Grimshaw speaks out over Harry Styles relationship rumours
Nick Grimshaw has finally addressed rumours that he has been romantically involved with Harry Styles.
The openly gay Radio 1 Breakfast Show presenter has been linked with Styles ever since the pair struck up a close friendship several years ago.
And earlier this year, Styles sang his new bisexual anthem, “Medicine,” with lines like “The boys and the girls are here, I mess around with them” as well as “I’m coming down, I figured out I kinda like it, and when I sleep I’m gonna dream of how you tasted.”
The former One Direction singer, 24, even used bisexual lighting while performing the track.
And now Grimshaw has opened up about their relationship.
The 33-year-old former X Factor judge was asked by The Sun if anything had ever happened between him and the global superstar.
“No, no. Not at all,” he responded. “It was an odd, odd thing to happen. It wasn’t very weird at the time, it’s weirder now.
“At the time, you’re just getting on with your life and you’re doing the radio and just hanging out and you’re like, whatever,” continued Grimshaw.
“But it was weirder when he came on to do the solo stuff and I started doing my Harry research, writing questions and stuff, and when I Googled him I was like: ‘This is actually a thing.’”
When questioned over why he thought people assumed they were together, he said: “It’s kind of crazy because we’d met and we just really got on.
“I don’t know if it’s because we were both Northern and had quite a similar sense of humour and because he was down in London and away from northerners and friends and family and we all just ended up hanging out together and getting on.
“I think that people assumed that because I was gay and he wears like floral shirts that he must be gay, and they were like they must be going out with each other.
“But I don’t know, it was something we never actually discussed together.”
In 2014, Grimshaw lashed out at One Direction fans for sending him “homophobic death threats” on Twitter.
As the band’s most prominent member, Styles has seen his star rise and rise, including with LGBT fans – some of whom have called him a lesbian icon after he tweeted a line from King Princess’s “1950,” a song about lesbian love.
He has repeatedly made statements – both verbally and non-verbally, by waving Pride flags – in support of LGBT rights.
Last year at a concert in Stockholm, Styles told fans: “If you are black, if you are white, if you are gay, if you are straight, if you are transgender – whoever you are, whoever you want to be, I support you.”
To cheers and screams of delight, he added: “I love every single one of you.”
