‘Mean Girls’ star Daniel Franzese and his fiance end their engagement

Mean Girls star Daniel Franzese and fiancé Joseph Bradley Phillips have ended their engagement.
The star, who played Damien, aka Glen Coco or “too gay to function” in Mean Girls, has said that he and his fiancé have decided to “go separate ways but I hope my path always crosses with his.”
“Sometimes shooting stars shine so brightly that they burn out and now we must go separate ways but I hope my path always crosses with his,” wrote Franzese, 40.

“Joseph Bradley Phillips and I have decided to part ways, break our engagement promise and continue on into the future as friends,” the actor told PEOPLE in a statement.
“We cared so much for each other that we ignored things that were important to our individual personal growth,” he continued. “We have taken some time to heal before letting everyone know and I’m grateful to all my friends and family who have shown us support during this difficult time.”

Mean Girls can arguably be described as one of the most poignant influences on early Noughties pop culture.
Franceze’s appearance in Mean Girls as Cadi’s best friend in the film is a firm staple of meme culture today.

Franzese, 40, proposed to Phillips in 2016 at the Starbucks where they first met. He had a barista call out “Mr. and Mr. Franzese” before he got down on one knee, reported Page Six.
